Bourn Technology has been asked to design and quote an outdoor wireless network for the timing information for the Crescent City Classic again this year in partnership with Tomba Communications. The customer was very happy with the network performance last year, but I saw plenty of room for improvement.

Last year over 40,000 people passed through the finish line celebration in just a couple hours. The wireless noise of that many smart phones in such a small location is truly amazing. The entire wireless spectrum from Cellular, PCS, and even 802.11 WiFi was completely saturated.

This year I have a couple new tricks up my sleeve, with the lessons learned from last year, I think we can put together the best solution for the task.
